New Season, New Possibilities

Georgia Dunstan-Brown

Each season seems to appear out of nowhere. It tiptoes from one month to the next, from miserable cold days, to blazing heat. But one thing to keep in mind is how a season serves as a reminder to start fresh.

Even if it’s the little things, like the recommended ‘change your toothbrush every new season’, or conduct a spring clean in spring.

But maybe it’s more than that.

At the start of each season, take a moment to do a mental and physical cleanout. What’s stressing you? What’s making you tired? What items of clothing are lying about and not getting worn?

Here are some tips to help start fresh at the beginning of each season:

  1. First off, what does your workspace look like? If it’s a mess, make it your first step to clean it. It’s scientifically proven that a messy workspace means you’re less productive and equally frustrated. It also gives you the opportunity to rearrange your space which gives you more motivation to work.
  2. Take a look at your diet. If you’ve fallen into bad habits across the past couple of months, make yourself a plan that you can realistically stick to. Get your 5+ a day of fruit and veggies in and allow yourself a treat here and there.
  3. Revise your workout routine. The same workout gets boring and your body isn’t challenged if you keep doing the same thing. There’s a ton of workouts online, find one that suits you and give it a go. People like Krissy Cela and Hanna Oeberg are good starts!
  4. Get rid of clothes you haven’t worn in a while. If you find this hard, put clothes that you’re not sure if you want to get rid of into a box and come back to them next season. If you find that you didn’t miss them, it’s time to get rid of them. Take them to places like the Salvation Army or your local thrift store.
  5. Create new goals and reassess your current ones. New Years isn’t the only time to make goals, you can sit down and write a list anytime you like, but use the start of a season to really focus on what your short-term and long-term goals are. See if you’re progressing on reaching your goals, and be realistic about creating new goals.

A new season brings so many different possibilities as well as a change of weather. Personalise the start of a season to you. What we mean by that is, set yourself some tasks that you want to do at the start of each season and track your progress. By doing so, you’re starting fresh multiple times a year.
